To Our Valued Clients and Friends:

MacLean-Blevins & Associates, Inc. is pleased to announce that Mark MacLean-Blevins has been awarded second place in the 2009 Wine Enthusiast Decanter Design Contest with his Celtic Influence decanter design.  Ms. Sybil Strum, CEO of The Wine Enthusiast Companies presented the award on June 15th, 2009, at the Lincoln Center in New York during the 2009 Wine Enthusiast Toast of the Town, America’s Premier Wine and Restaurant Tasting Event.

The Wine Enthusiast, a 30-year veteran in the wine industry publishing and wine accessories business, launched the national design contest in January and selected winners based on aesthetic and functional criteria.  For more information go to www.wineenthusiast.com or to subscribe go to www.winemag.com.

In addition to the submitted design concept, Wine Enthusiast wanted to know how the proposed decanter design enhances the taste of the wine and the aesthetics of the wine presentation.  Mark’s response; “As with any decanter, this design allows the wine to open and breathe.  The three-lobed design helps to introduce eddies into the flow during swirling of the decanter - thus turning and presenting more of the wine to the surface for enhanced oxygen exposure.  From an aesthetics vantage, the three-lobed, Celtic Influence presents a visually stable base, well grounded and firm.  The pour spout reaches for the sky and opens like a new sprout from a bulb, waiting all winter for its opportunity to seek the sun.  The recessed bottom punt allows the user a firm grip while pouring.  The long neck and broad pouring surface allow for excellent visibility through the wine to observe and refrain from pouring sediment from the decanter.  With the design of this Celtic Influence decanter there is elegance in simplicity.”
